Pizza Bianca

Pizza Bianca won her career debut July 22 at Saratoga Race Course, closing from seventh early to win by three-quarters of a length. Owned and bred by celebrity chef Bobby Flay, the Fastnet Rock filly was tested next against stakes competition in the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes Sept. 19 at Woodbine. She again closed from seventh but came up short when second to Wild Beauty.

Flay and trainer Christophe Clement opted to try her in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Nov. 5 at Del Mar. She was trapped behind a wall of horses when second to last entering the final turn, but jockey Jose Ortiz was able to weave a path through the field to take command in deep stretch to post a 9.90-1 upset victory.

Pizza Bianca returned for her 3-year-old season in the Memories of Silver Stakes April 24 at Belmont Park. She took a short lead in the stretch but was outfinished by Consumer Spending and lost by three quarters of a length. The filly rebounded with a driving 1 ¾-length win in the Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico on May 20 as the 2-5 favorite.

Pizza Bianca was sent to the Royal Ascot meet in England for her next start on June 17, 2022 in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at one mile. She raced near the rear of a 12-horse feld and failed to fire to finish eighth.

The next start for Piza Bianca came nearly four months later on Oct. 15 in the Grade 2 $200,000 Sands Point Stakes at the Belmont at the Big A meet. She once again raced last in the early going and came with only a mild rally in the stretch and settled for fourth.

Pizza Bianca is out of the unraced Galileo mare White Hot, a half-sibling to 2011 Epsom Derby winner Pour Moi.
