War Bomber (IRE)

War Bomber needed three starts to earn his first victory, winning a seven-eighths of a mile turf race July 24, 2021, at Woodbine after unplaced finishes in his first two races. He followed with a victory Aug. 21 in a one-mile turf race from which he was claimed for $25,000 by Norm McKnight on behalf of Bruno Shickedanz. The claim paid immediate dividends as War Bomber won the Toronto Cup Stakes by two lengths at 19.65-1 odds in his next start Sept. 12.

After an unplaced finish in the Grade 2 Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont Park, War Bomber shifted from turf to the synthetic main track at Woodbine for an allowance victory.

In August 2022, War Bomber earned a breakthrough graded stakes win in the $150,000 Seagram Cup Stakes at Woodbine, setting the pace in the 1 1/16-mile race on the main track and holding on to win the Grade 3 by three-quarters of a length.

Seemingly equally gifted on both turf and synthetic surfaces, War Bomber became a Graded Stakes winner again during his 5-year-old campaign in 2023 when he won the $200,000 Grade 2 King Edward Stakes going one mile at Woodbine on Aug. 19. War Bomber chased a clear leader around the track in the King Edward before fighting his way to the lead in deep stretch and then held on to win by a neck atop a nine-horse field. 

War Bomber is one of multiple stakes winners produced by his dam (mother), Sun Shower, by Indian Ridge. War Bomber is a full-sibling to Group 1 winner Lancaster Bomber, runner-up in the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and second in both the Ricoh Woodbine Mile and Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2017. Sun Shower also produced Group 1 winner and sire Excelebration, War Bomber’s half-sibling.
