Chismosa

Chismosa, a California-bred Clubhouse Ride filly, scored an upset win in the Grade 3 Las Flores Stakes Jan. 1, 2024, at Santa Anita Park to earn her first graded stakes victory and third stakes win overall in career start no. 12.

The filly had competed well on the California circuit prior to her breakthrough in the Las Flores, winning her first three starts as a 2-year-old during summer 2022, including two stakes restricted to California-breds at Del Mar. At age 3, she nearly captured her first graded stakes when second by a nose in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes behind Eda at Los Alamitos.

Chismosa came from off the pace to win the six-furlong Las Flores by 1 ¼ lengths under Kyle Frey. The filly improved to four wins in 12 starts, with two seconds and two thirds and boosted her earnings to $368,250 for owner-breeder Jaime Renella.
