Tyler Baze was born into a racing family, as both parents were jockeys and his second cousin Russell Baze is a Hall of Fame jockey. Tyler started riding in 1999 and was named the Eclipse champion apprentice jockey in 2000 after riding 246 winners that year.
Baze has won multiple graded stakes including the 2014 Gold Cup at Santa Anita aboard Breeders' Cup Classic contender Majestic Harbor. In 2009 Breeders' Cup Baze finished second in the Turf Sprint with Gotta Have Her, third in the Sprint with Cost of Freedom and third in the Juvenile Fillies with Blind Luck.
