Stoneway Farm

Nudged by his friends in 1998 to use some of his farm
in La Grange, Ky., for horses, Jim Stone has found success on the
track and in the sales ring. Stone is the president of Mercer
Transportation, a trucking company based in Louisville, and had
intended to use the land to store heavy equipment. A trip to the
Keeneland sales changed those plans. Stone's first four investments
in bloodstock earned six figures, either on the track or at
auction. His first purchase, Added Time, won nearly $108,000 and
hit the board in stakes races from 2000-01. She is the dam of Irish
Smoke, winner of the Grade 1 Spinaway in 2007.Stone's most
accomplished stakes winner was Proper Gamble - an earner of
nearly $375,000 who won the Grade 2 Beaumont Stakes and Grade 3
Cicada Stakes in 2002. Among the farm's breeding successes have
been Magicalmysterykate, who sold in November 2003 for $900,000,
and Awe That, a stakes-placed mare, who sold in January 2003 for
$330,000. Awe That went on to be the dam of 2006 Alcibiades winner
Bel Air Beauty.
