A former television executive whose family established and owned KCRA-TV in Sacramento, Calif., from 1955 until 1999, Jon Kelly purchased stock in Golden Gate Fields in Northern California in his mid-20s and owned some horses in partnership.
He subsequently sold his interest in racehorses and Golden Gate but returned to the sport in 1998 as an owner.
Jon Kelly and his wife, Sarah, raced horses such as graded stakes winners Vacare, Sporting Art, Meridiana, Lady At Peace and campaigned in partnership multiple Grade 1 winner Borrego.
