all in Breeders' Cup

It's never a good thing when your boss calls you a knucklehead.

“You can teach him,” quipped legendary trainer Ben A. Jones of Whirlaway in the spring of 1941, “but you can't teach him much. ”

With 38 editions – and counting – in the record book, the Breeders' Cup World Championships stands as an amazing success story that has withstood the test of time.

Fans returned to tracks with great enthusiasm after a year’s absence due to the pandemic. Business was brisk on all fronts as racing celebrated some sense of normalcy and looked hopefully to what shows every sign of being a bright future. Tom Pedulla recalls some of the year’s most significant moments:

A race sponsorship campaign initially brought attention to the Claiborne Farm stallion Runhappy, but at Churchill Downs Nov. 27, the sire received notice of another kind.

For the first time, Breeders’ Cup Ltd., America’s Best Racing (ABR), and Hípica TV collaborated to present live coverage, entirely in Spanish, of all 14 Breeders’ Cup World Championships races. Branded as “Breeders’ Cup en Vivo,” the two Spanish Breeders’ Cup broadcasts received more than 282,000 cumulative views while streaming live on Hípica TV’s YouTube channel over the two-day event.
