all in Breeders' Cup

2018 B.C. (Before Covid) was a simpler time. A time where no one considered color matching their mask to their seersucker. It also was a time when one of the all-time horse racing underdogs flashed an ability rarely seen in the sport, and even more rarely took time to develop that ability into habit.

The fields for the 14 races that comprise the Breeders’ Cup World Championships begin to really come into focus in late summer and early fall.

The upcoming holiday weekend in horse racing is annually one of the busiest on the calendar, and this year will be especially exciting as both Saratoga Race Course and Del Mar will have fans in attendance for the final days of their summer meets. Two Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” races are on tap, both set for Saturday, Sept. 4 at Saratoga, and important 2-year-old races will follow at both tracks on Sunday, Sept.

Tom Pedulla presents five takeaways from the $1.25 million Runhappy Travers Stakes on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course and other major developments this weekend:

Though the $202,000 Grade 2 Pat O'Brien Stakes attracted a bevy of graded stakes winners, Ginobili brought improving comeback form to spring a mild upset. The 4-year-old gelding brought home his first stakes trophy, fittingly at Del Mar, the location of all three of his lifetime victories.
