all in Breeders' Cup

The $250,000, Grade 1 Flower Bowl Stakes annually ranks as one of North America’s most prestigious turf races for fillies and mares. Held over 1 1/4 miles at Belmont Park, the Flower Bowl boasts an impressive roster of winners dating back to its inaugural running in 1978, including champions Waya, Just a Game, Soaring Softly, and Lady Eli.

As the Breeders’ Cup draws ever closer, the preps for the World Championships take on added meaning. In New York this weekend, among four Grade 1 stakes Saturday at Belmont Park is the Champagne Stakes, which will spotlight the Empire State’s leading hopeful for the TVG Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.

The $250,000, Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes is traditionally one of the most important races on the calendar for older males as well as a golden opportunity for a talented 3-year-old to test his mettle against more seasoned opposition. First held in 1919, this year’s edition will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 at Belmont Park.

The path to the 2020 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland Race Course on Nov. 6-7 is a road with plenty of ups and downs as talented racehorses vie for a spot in one of 14 championship races and $31 million in purses and awards.
