The upcoming weekend in horse racing is packed with important races on the road to the 41st annual Breeders’ Cup World Championships, with six Challenge Series “Win and You’re In” preps scheduled Sept. 28-29.

The Grade 1, $1 million California Crown Stakes Presented by SirDavis American Whisky, formerly the Awesome Again Stakes, is a “Win and You’re In” prep for the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic Nov. 2 at Del Mar.

Each week a panel of media members, horseplayers, and Breeders’ Cup World Championships officials release a poll tabulating their votes ranking the top contenders for the 2024 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic. The results are a weekly rating of the top 10 horses in contention and are determined by each voter ranking their top 10 horses with points assigned on a descending 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

The Road to the 2024 Breeders’ Cup picks back up this weekend with a total of six “Win and You’re In” preps scheduled at Santa Anita Park and Belmont and the Big A (Aqueduct).

The Vosburgh Stakes may not have a star-studded field but there could be a Breeders’ Cup starter in an evenly matched field of seven. The seven-furlong stakes offers the winner an expenses-paid-spot in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint Nov. 2 at Del Mar via the “Win and You’re In” Challenge Series for the World Championships.
