all in Triple Crown

Thoroughbred racing takes the international spotlight May 6 at Churchill Downs, as more than 150,000 people are expected to attend the 149th Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve while millions more watch the race on a national television broadcast in the U.S. and through other outlets worldwide.

The Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve is the longest continuously held sporting event in America, with this year marking its 150th installment. Often referred to as the “most exciting two minutes in sports,” the iconic race first occurred May 17, 1875, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., and has been run there every year since.

Season 2 of “Stake in Stardom,” the America’s Best Racing initiative in which brand ambassadors become minority stake owners in an elite Thoroughbred, is underway. This year’s roster includes a few familiar faces from last season in addition to several new personalities eager to experience the sport and lifestyle of horse racing up close.

Each week, members of the national media vote on the nation's top contenders on the Triple Crown trail in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) Top Thoroughbred Poll.

Week 13 of the 2023 NTRA Top Three-Year-Old Thoroughbred Poll, covers racing performances through April 23. The order of the Top 10 is unchanged from the previous week.

NBC Sports football analyst Matthew Berry will join the network’s coverage of the 149th Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve, Saturday, May 6 at Noon ET on NBC and Peacock, offering his unique insight on horse racing’s biggest event. “Handicapping 101 with Matthew Berry” will provide a lighthearted look at the basics of betting the races.
