all in Triple Crown

Longtime Thoroughbred owner/breeder Robert Clay is awed to see Dornoch earn a place in the starting gate of this year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve and also realistic about the colt’s chances to buck 149 years of Derby history.

The 150th edition of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve will be held May 4 under the Twin Spires at Churchill Downs, a full century and a half of U.S. Thoroughbred racing history etched in the history books with the addition of the name of one more winner.

The historic 150th edition of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve is set for Saturday and once again the opening leg of the Triple Crown stands center stage in the sport. A field of 20 with two also-eligible entrants was entered and, as usual, the cream of the 3-year-old crop will meet at a challenging 1 ¼-mile distance in America’s most famous horse race.

NBC Sports will provide 12 ½ hours of racing coverage highlighted by its national broadcast of the 150th Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve Saturday from 2:30-7:30 p.m. ET.

The purse for the 150th running of the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve May 4 at Churchill Downs fittingly has been raised to $5 million.
