Tom Pedulla presents five key takeaways from an action-packed Saturday that included memorable performances in the Jim Dandy Stakes Presented by DK Horse and Alfred G.

For many years, the Breeders’ Cup Classic and the Dubai World Cup reigned as the two richest dirt races in the world. Winning both has been the mark of a great horse; only five horses have achieved the feat, and three of them are members of Racing’s Hall of Fame, including the amazing international traveler Invasor.

Time and time again, whether it be sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs or routing 1 1/16 miles, Senor Buscador has shown he can close, and close well, with the ideal race set up. In the July 29 $300,000 San Diego Handicap, just one of three Del Mar stakes he was nominated for that weekend, the Grade 2 race unfolded perfectly for the son of Mineshaft as he rallied to a 1 1/4-length victory.

There was much that could be said or written about what happened July 29 on a sloppy, sealed racetrack at Saratoga Race Course in the $485,000 Jim Dandy Stakes presented by DK Horse.

While some of the top sprinters on the East Coast will be facing off in the Alfred G.
