Saturday’s $1.25 million Runhappy Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course is shaping up to be a terrific race and perhaps the most important of the summer with a chance to go a long way toward determining this year's champion 3-year-old male.

What is it about some horses that captures fans’ imaginations?

Think legends like Kelso, John Henry, and Whitmore, and then add one more name to that list: Dr Blarney.

In 2022, the 3-year-old dirt male division in North American Thoroughbred racing has been highly competitive with a pecking order constantly in flux. Three different horses won Triple Crown races and injuries and setbacks have affected the campaigns of several top contenders.

The fictional Moira Rose, played by Catherine O’Hara for years on the popular sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” was a spoiled, eccentric, and overly dramatic character.

Her namesake, the talented 3-year-old filly Moira, also has her own unique personality traits, particularly in the lead-up to the race, such as in the paddock. When racing, however, she is simply all class.

When it was over, the winner’s circle at Saratoga Race Course after the tenth race on Aug. 20 looked like Times Square at rush hour. Wave after wave of those who call themselves family – or friends – of the gregarious Mike Repole descended upon the mall enclosure at the finish line, the holy grail at the Spa. There were 100 people stuffed in there. Probably more.
