There seems to be a bright future in store for 3-year-old Locked after his win in the Grade 2 $500,000 Cigar Mile Handicap presented by Twinspires.com Dec. 7 at Aqueduct Racetrack.

There were 13 graded stakes races across North America last week from coast to coast, resulting in lots of activity on the 2024 Equibase earnings leaderboard.

While the New York Racing Association has two Grade 1 stakes for 2-year-olds, Saturday’s Grade 2 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct has been a much more reliable indicator of Triple Crown success. A year ago, the Remsen was captured by Dornoch, who went on to prevail in the Belmont Stakes and NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes.

Oaklawn Park’s 120th season opens Friday, kicking off 65 days of elite Thoroughbred racing. Throughout the season, Oaklawn’s 57 stakes races will offer a total of $17.65 million in purses.

The $500,000, Grade 2 Cigar Mile Handicap Presented by Twinspires.com scheduled for Saturday at Aqueduct offers one final opportunity for accomplished dirt mile horses to compete in a marquee race before the calendar turns to 2025.
