The Runhappy Travers Stakes will be truly living up to its nickname of “The Midsummer Derby” this year.

As part of a revamped Saratoga Race Course schedule, the 1 1/4-mile Travers has been moved up three weeks to an Aug. 8 date with a $1 million purse as the centerpiece of a 71-stakes schedule worth $14.45 million for the 40-day meet July 16-Sept. 7.

Although Kentucky native Kenny Rice has a wealth of experience covering horse racing, nothing has quite prepared him for the 152nd edition of the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets on Saturday.

The Longines Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park has a long, storied history as a significant race for 3-year-old fillies as it requires a combination of speed and stamina as a one-turn mile.

This year’s Belmont Stakes will be different than any other, with a new date, distance, and track regulations, but it will still draw the attention of sports fans from across the nation as well as some of the best 3-year-old Thoroughbreds in the country.
