The Arlington Million Stakes will always be one of horse racing’s historical markers, as the 1 ¼-mile turf race was the first to offer a million-dollar purse when its inaugural running was held in 1981 at Arlington Park in suburban Chicago.

Turf racing and a hurricane are a bad mix, so it’s not much of a surprise that the Beverly D. Stakes, a $500,000 turf test for fillies and mares at Colonial Downs, has been moved to Sunday due to the prospect of sustained heavy rain.

Veteran jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. has been selected as the 2024 Mike Venezia Memorial Award recipient, the New York Racing Association announced Aug. 7.

Each week a panel of media members, horseplayers, and Breeders’ Cup World Championships officials release a poll tabulating their votes on the nation's top contenders for the 2024 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic. The rankings are a weekly rating of the top 10 horses in contention and are determined by each voter ranking their top 10 horses with points assigned on a descending 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

One of the marquee races of Saratoga Race Course’s summer meet is set for this weekend, when the $500,000, Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap will be run on the inner turf course.
