While attending Boston College, John Terranvoa II took a leave of absence and never returned to school after becoming an assistant trainer. He took out his training license in 1993 and began training for Team Valor in 1998 and won the Aqueduct Handicap with the partnership's Star of Valor. He has also trained top stakes horses El Kabeir, Laragh, Negligee, Gander, Fanny Freud and Shadow Caster.
He has amassed over 300 wins and saddles his first Kentucky Derby starter in 2013 with Sam F. Davis winner Falling Sky.
