Hushion was born in New York City, but discovered horse racing
while majoring in economics at the University of Oklahoma. He left
school after three years to pursue a career in the sport and
received his racing education during a five-year tour as a groom
and assistant for the legendary Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens.
Hushion opened his own stable in 1975 and won a pair of Aqueduct
training titles during the winter of 1992-93. He has been the main
trainer for owner Barry K. Schwartz since 1991. Hushion trained the

Boojum, Sport Page and Toboggan handicaps in New York. Other stakes
winners Hushion has conditioned include Bedside Manner, Blare of
Trumpets, Fire King, Seeking the Sky and Turnofthecentury.
