Peter Miller

Peter Miller began going to the track at age 8, spending the summers at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. His parents owned Thoroughbreds in the name of Winning Ways Stable, and it wasn't long before Miller decided he wanted to be a jockey. Doctors said he would outgrow the profession so he turned to other ways to be involved in the sport.

Miller got his start working for Hall of Fame trainer Charlie Whittingham and later worked for Mike Mitchell and Don Warren as well as John and Betty Mabee's Golden Eagle Farm. Multiple graded stakes winners Appealing Tale, Comma to the Top and Finnegans Wake and Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint runner-up Reneesgotzip are among the best Miller has trained.

In 2017, Miller won Grade 1 races with talented sprinter Roy H and Stormy Liberal, the latter gave Miller his first career Breeders' Cup win by closing from off the pace to nip stablemate Richard's Boy by a head in the 2017 Turf Sprint. One race later, Roy H reeled in Imperial Hint to win the TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint to make it a double for Miller.

Miller experienced an elating feeling of déjà vu at the 2018 Breeders’ Cup under the twin spires at Churchill Downs, as both of his 2017 winners – Stormy Liberal and Roy H – incredibly repeated in their respective races, the Turf Sprint and TwinSpires Sprint. In 2019, Miller won the Turf Sprint for the third year in a row when Belvoir Bay streaked to a front-running victory.

Miller has enjoyed great success at the prestigious Del Mar summer meet. He won the training title there in 2012, 2018, and 2021. He also won the title at the fall meet in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
