One of Steve Margolis’ first jobs was as a groom in 1985 at Belmont Park for John Veitch, who subsequently was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame. Margolis was so intrigued by Thoroughbred racing that he decided to make it his career and honed his skills by working in key positions with a few high-profile trainers before launching his own training career.

Margolis scored his first victory on September 15, 2000 at Turfway Park in Northern Kentucky. By 2002, Margolis achieved every horseman’s dream of having a Kentucky Derby starter when Request for Parole represented him and finished fifth. The following year, Margolis won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint with Cajun Beat and his stable continues to include a number of horses that are competitive at racing’s highest levels. Margolis races at Fair Grounds in New Orleans in the winter and is primarily based at Churchill Downs the rest of the year.
