Thomas M. Amoss

Amoss is a New Orleans native who has amassed more than 3,500 victories since he took out his trainer’s license in 1987.

Inducted into the Fair Grounds Hall of Fame in 1998, he has leading trainer titles at Fair Ground, Churchill Downs, Ellis Park, and Kentucky Downs.

Amoss trained multiple Grade 1 winner Heritage of Gold and Grade 1 winner Big World as well as multiple graded stakes winners Rush Bay, Baghdaria, Backtalk, Sum of the Parts, Delaunay and Grand Contender. He trained Lecomte Stakes winner Mo Tom on the 2016 Kentucky Derby trail. Amoss finished third in the 2013 Preakness Stakes with Mylute.

Amoss picked up a Grade 1 win in 2017 when Big World won the La Troienne Stakes Presented by Spirited Funds on the Longines Kentucky Oaks undercard.

In 2018, Lone Sailor finished second in the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby and won a graded stakes for Amoss. That fall, Amoss unveiled a standout 2-year-old in Serengeti Empress, who won the Ellis Park Debutante by 13 1/2 lengths and the Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes by 19 1/2 lengths.

Serengeti Empress opened her 3-year-old season with a runaway win in the Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes and then earned a career-defining win when she led from start to finish to win the $1.25 million Longines Kentucky Oaks.
