Alotaluck, a California-bred Sir Prancealot gelding based in New Mexico, won his debut, a six-furlong sprint on Dec. 11, 2023 at Zia Park, by 2 ½ lengths. He stretched out five weeks later for his 3-year-old debut in the Riley Allison Derby and tired slightly late but still held second behind Lucky Jeremy.

In his third start, Alotaluck improved when vying for Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve qualifying points in the Feb. 19 Sunland Park Derby, stalking the pace, moving back in the turn, but then re-rallying to edge Lucky Jeremy by a head for runner-up honors behind favored Stronghold. He picked up 10 points good for entry into the May 4 Kentucky Derby with the effort.
