Avant Garde had an excellent summer at Gulfstream Park in 2020. On July 4, he broke his maiden in a $25,000 maiden claiming race by 5 1/4 lengths. He then rattled off three more wins in a row, by a combined 11 3/4 lengths. Off those impressive races, he was entered in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park on Sept. 27. In that race, he was fourth, beaten 5 1/2 lengths. He closed his 3-year-old campaign with two more wins at Gulfstream, including a score in the Claiming Crown Rapid Transit Stakes on Dec. 5.

On Jan. 23, 2021, Avant Garde made his 4-year-old debut in the Grade 3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes. He finished third, beaten 1 1/2 lengths. Next out, he was second in the Grade 2 WinStar Gulfstream Park Mile on Feb. 27.
