Baby Max, a Maximus Mischief colt trained by Kelsey Danner for J S Stables, earned 10 qualifying points for the 2025 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve with a second-place finish in the Feb. 22 John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway Park.
The colt had won two of four starts heading into the Battaglia, where he came up a half-length short to California Burrito as the post-time favorite. It was his second stakes appearance following a 2 ½-length triumph in the Leonatus Stakes at Turfway Jan. 18.
