Elite Power

Elite Power raced twice as a 3-year-old but didn't reach the winner's circle until his 4-year-old season when he won his maiden race by nine lengths in a seven-furlong race at Churchill Downs on June 5, 2022. That race began a winning streak that saw Elite Power transform from a maiden to a Grade 2 stakes winner in a matter of four months.

Elite Power won a first-level allowance race by 3 1/4 lengths at one mile back at Churchill on June 30, and then shipped to Saratoga and won again, this time by 3 1/2 lengths in a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race

The next start for Elite Power was the Grade 2 $250,000 Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 8, where he was sent off as the 1-2 odds favorite in a field of and cruised home to an easy victory. The Vosburgh was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Win and You're In race that qualified Elite Power for a spot in the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Sprint.

Elite Power ended his 4-year-old 2022 season with a victory in the Grade 1 $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint, capping a five-race winning streak that took Elite Power from maiden winner to Breeders' Cup winner. Sent off as the 5-1 third choice on the tote board in a field of 11 horses in the Sprint, Elite Power sat off the pace in mid-pack and gained ground throughout the race making a wide move on the turn and then charging past the leaders in the stretch including odds-on favorite Jackie's Warrior. Elite Power completed the six furlongs in a winning time of 1:09.11 and won by a 1 1/4-length margin over runner-up C Z Rocket.

Elite Power was the Eclipse Award as champion sprinter of 2022. He took his show on the road to begin his 5-year-old campaign and was sent to the $1.5 million Group 3 Riyadh Dirt Sprint at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Saudi Arabia on Feb. 25, 2023. As the star of the Saudi Cup undercard, Elite Power stalked the pace outside, then made a decisive move and demolished the field that also included Gunite to win the Riyadh Dirt Sprint with Frankie Dettori aboard.

Elite Power was victorious in his return stateside on June 10 on the Belmont Stakes undercard in the Grade 2 $250,000 True North Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs. Sent off as the 0.75-1 favorite in a six-horse field in the True North, Elite Power laid comfortably off the pace until making his decisive move turning for home, where he took the lead and coasted to a 1 3/4-length win in a time of 1:15.65. He made his third start of the year in the Grade 1, $350,000 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap July 29 at Saratoga and Elite Power extended his winning streak to eight by reeling in a determined Gunite in the closing strides to win by a head. Elite Power completed the three-quarter-mile Vanderilt in 1:09.22 under Irad Ortiz Jr.

The 14 1/2-month, eight-race winning streak came to a halt on Aug. 26, 2023, at Saratoga, where Gunite set a measured pace and held off Elite Power by 1 3/4 lengths in the $500,000, Grade 1 Forego Stakes on the Travers undercard.

Elite Power returned to the racetrack one more time in 2023 to face a star-studded field in an attempt to repeat in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint. Elite Power got his revenge on Gunite and beat the rest of the field and was victorious in his second straight Breeders' cup Sprint on Nov. 4 at Santa Anita Park. Sent off as the 8-5 favorite in a field of eight in the Sprint, Elite Power used his customary off-the-pace running style and was moved into position earlier than usual in an alert ride from Irad Ortiz Jr.and then got past the leaders in the stretch to score a decisive 1 1/2-length victory, securing his second straight Eclipse Award as outstanding sprinter for 2023.

Elite Power was sired by Curlin out of the mare Broadway's Alibi by Vindication. He was purchased for $900,000 at the September Keeneland Yearling sale. He is trained by Bill Mott.
