Fearless

Fearless made his 5-year-old debut a winning one, taking the Grade 2 WinStar Gulfstream Park Mile on Feb. 27. The Todd Pletcher trainee rated off a loose leader, made his way to the lead entering the stretch, then fended off some challenges for the 3/4-length victory. 

That was the first graded stakes win for the son of Ghostzapper, who was purchased for $725,000 as a yearling. In his previous two graded stakes tries, he finished off the board. 

In his next start, Fearless was second in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap at Oaklawn Park on Apr. 17, battling gamely on the inside in a six-way stretch battle.

After a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Pimlico Special Match Series Stakes on May 14, Fearless went to the sidelines for several months. He returned with a second-place finsih in an overnight handicap at Gulfstream on Nov. 21. Stepping up to stakes company for his next start, he went off as the odds-on favorite in the Grade 3 Harlan's Holiday Stakes at Gulfstream on Dec. 18. He stalked the pace, then moved three-wide on the final turn and won by 2 1/4 lengths.

Fearless stayed at Gulfstream for the duration of its Championship Meet during winter 2021-22. He finished second in his first two starts at age 6, losing to Speaker's Corner both times in the Grade 3 Fred Hooper Stakes and the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes. The gelding got back to the winner's circle in his third 2022 start at the Hallandale Beach track, powering clear at the top of the stretch to take his sire's namesake race, the Grade 3 Ghostzapper Stakes, by six lengths on April 2.

After running second in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap, Fearless stretched out to 1 ½ miles for the June 11 Brooklyn Stakes at Belmont Park. He stalked the pace in third through the first mile and moved to engage defending race winner Lone Rock at the top of the stretch before drawing away to a 2 ¾-length win that boosted his career earnings over the $1 million mark.
