Fulsome

Fulsome began his career on the grass and needed three races to earn his first win, taking a January 2021 maiden race at Fair Grounds by a neck in his 3-year-old debut. He followed with a fourth-place finish in the Black Gold Stakes Feb. 27 at Fair Grounds.

In April at Keeneland, inclement weather forced a planned start in a turf race to be moved to a sloppy main track and Fulsome responded with the best race of his career to date, surging to a 3 ½-length win in a 1 1/16-mile allowance race.

Sent to Oaklawn Park for his stakes debut in the Oaklawn Stakes while remaining on the main track, Fulsome again dominated in a 1 ¼-length win. The Juddmonte Farms homebred was then tested in class in the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes and overcame a troubled start with an eye-catching last-to-first rally in which he overwhelmed the opposition that included a pair of Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve runners, including Derby fifth-place finisher O Besos.

Fulsome was the odds-on favorite in his next start, the Grade 3 Indiana Derby at Indiana Grand Race Course on July 7. He ended up third, beaten 5 1/2 lengths by Mr. Wireless. The talented 3-year-old bounced back smartly Aug. 24 at Parx Racing with a last-to-first rally en route to a clear win as the 3-5 favorite in the Grade 3 Smarty Jones Stakes.

After a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby, Fulsome went to the sidelines for the rest of his 3-year-old season. He returned to the races with a win in the Oaklawn Mile Stakes on Apr. 2, 2022. 

Fulsome then finished sixth in the Grade 2 Alysheba Stakes Presented by Sentient Jet but bounced back to win a tough allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs by a nose on June 25. He was then shipped to Mountaineer Park, where he won the Grade 3 West Virginia Governor’s Stakes by 1 ¼ lengths as the 7-10 favorite.
