Hang the Moon

Hang the Moon got her maiden win in her second career start as a 2-year-old at Laurel on Oct. 8, 2022, and won again versus allowance horses early in her 3-year-old season in a Fair Ground allowance race on Jan. 22, 2023.

Hang the Moon sprang to life during her 4-year-old campaign in 2024, first with an allowance optional claiming win at Santa Anita on June 9, and then with her first career stakes win in the Grade 2 $250,000 John C. Mabee Stakes going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Sept. 7. Sent off as a 20-1 longshot in a field of seven fillies and mares, Hang the Moon trailed early in the Mabee and made a last-to-first move to get up in deep stretch and win by a half a length.

Hang the Moon maintained the upward trajectory in her career with another upset win in her next race in the Grade 2 $200,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes going 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Santa Anita on Oct. 5. Sent off at 9.90-1 odds in a field of seven fillies and mares in the Rodeo Drive, Hang the Moon raced behind the field in last much of the way until launching a big move on the final turn and coming with a wide rally into the stretch to get up in time to score a 1 1/2-length win. The Rodeo Drive was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "Win and You're In" race and with her victory, Hang the Moon secured a fees-paid berth into the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

Hang the Moon is trained by Phil D'Amato. She was bred in Kentucky by the sire Uncle Mo out of the mare Moondance by Malibu Moon.
