Honed won his maiden race at first asking in his 2-year-old career debut on July 10, 2022, at Ellis Park, winning by a head atop a four-horse field going one mile. Honed subsequently was entered versus stakes competition and responded with a runner-up finish in his second start in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs on Sept. 17. He finished his juvenile campaign with back-to-back off-the-board finishes in October stakes races, finishing eighth in the Grade 1 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland and sixth in the Grade 3 Street Sense Stakes at Churchill Downs.
