Kinross (GB)

After winning one of two starts as a 2-year-old in 2019, English-bred Kinross went four starts without a top-three finish at age 3 before he breaking through with a win in the listed British Stallion Studs E.B.F. Hyde Stakes on the all-weather track at Kempton Park to close out his season.

The Kingman gelding competed exclusively in stakes during his 4-year-old campaign while racing in his home country, France, and Dubai. He won both the Group 2 Unibet Lennox Stakes at Goodwood and the Group 3 Betway John of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock Park over the summer.

In 2022, Kinross reached career-best form by first coming up short by a neck in a bid to repeat in the World Pool Lennox Stakes and then taking two Group 2 Stakes back-to-back in late summer -- the Sky Bet City of York Stakes at York on Aug. 20 and the Cazoo Park Stakes at Doncaster on Sept. 11, both at seven furlongs.

The wins were only starting to come for Kinross at that point in the season. Kinross raised up against Group 1 competition and was victorious on Oct. 2 in the Prix de la Foret going seven furlongs at Longchamp. He then earned another giant victory when taking the Group 1 British Champions Sprint Stakes at six furlongs on the straightaway at Ascot on Oct. 15.

Kinross was then sent to the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland on Nov. 5 to go for a Grade1/Group 1 triple in another of international racing's headline events in the Grade 1 FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile. Sent off as the 9-1 third choice in the 14-horse field after drawing the far wide post 12, Kinross had to come from far back in the pack and closed well but settled for third, beaten less than a length.

Kinross is trained by Ralph Beckett. He was bred in Great Britain by the sire Kingman out of the multiple stakes-winning Selkirk mare Ceilidh House. He is from the family of 2009 Virginia Derby winner Battle of Hastings.
