Lone Rock

Lone Rock concluded his 3-year-old season with his first career stakes win. He won the Jeffrey A. Hawk Memorial Stakes at Remington Park on Dec. 16, 2018, prevailing in a long stretch battle to win by a neck under Alex Canchari.

Between the end of 2020 and the start of 2021, Lone Rock rattled off three straight wins. That streak was snapped with a second-place finish in the Temperence Hill Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Mar. 13, 2021, where he rated off the pace but lost a stretch battle with Carlos L.

After that Temperance Hill defeat, Lone Rock won two long-distance races in a row. He won the Isaac Murphy Marathon Overnight Stakes Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance at Churchill Downs on April 27 by 3 3/4 lengths, then prevailed in the Brooklyn Stakes Presented by Northwell Health at Belmont Park on June 5 by 11 1/4 lengths.

On the strength of that victory, Lone Rock was the odds-on choice in the Birdstone Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 5. He won by four lengths, for his fourth win in a row. He was once again the odds-on favorite in the Grand Prix American Jockey Club Invitational Stakes at Belmont on Sept. 18, but ended up second behind Locally Owned in an upset.

Lone Rock and Locally Owned squared off for a second time in the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes at Del Mar on Nov. 6. Lone Rock got his redemption with an easy victory in the 1 5/8 mile contest, establishing himself as the country's top long-distance horse. He wrapped up his 2021 season with a three-quarter length win in the Tinsel Stakes at Oaklawn on Dec. 18. 

Lone Rock returned to the races in the Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 12, but finished a well-beaten sixth. He stretched out to his preferred 1 1/2-mile distance next out in the Temperence Hill Stakes at Oaklawn on Apr. 3. He bounced back with a neck victory over Lone Samurai. Next out, Lone Rock won the Issac Murphy Marathon Overnight Stakes for the second year in a row at Churchill on May 3.
