Low Expectations finished second in his graded stakes debut, yielding to Wild On Ice by 1 ¼ lengths in the Sunland Park Derby on March 26, and that game effort earned the Nyquist gelding 20 qualifying points for the 2023 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
Prior to his Sunland Derby start, Low Expectations raced six times in California with two wins, both coming in his prior starts to his trip to New Mexico.
