Master of The Seas (IRE)

Master of The Seas was a multiple Group stakes winner on the turf in England and Dubai with wins racing in distance from seven furlongs up to 1 1/8 miles. His wins include the Group 2 Bet365 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket as a 2-year-old on July 11, 2020, the Group 3 Bet365 Craven Stakes going one mile at Newmarket as a 3-year-old on April 15, 2021, and the Group 3 Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket as a 4-year-old on April 12, 2022.

As a 5-year-old in 2023, Master of The Seas began the year with a win in the Group 2 Zabeel Mile at Meydan Race Course in Dubai on Jan. 20, and then later won the Group 2 Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile at Ascot on July 15 by four lengths with a late running performance at one mile. Perhaps the highlight of Master of The Seas' career was a second-place finish by a nose in the English 2000 Guineas (English Derby) on May 1, 2021.

Master of The Seas was brought to North America to start in the Grade 1 $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile on Sept. 16. He was sent off as the 2-5 favorite on the tote board in a six-horse field and did not disappoint. He made a last-to-first move past the field to win easily by 3 3/4 lengths in a time of 1:33.79 over a firm turf course at Woodbine. The Woodbine Mile was a Breeders' Cup Challenge series win and you're in race, and with his victory, Master of The Seas secured his spot in the starting gate for the FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile presented by PDJF on Nov. 4 at Santa Anita.

In his final prep for the Breeders’ Cup Mile, Master of The Seas led into deep stretch but was caught late by Up to the Mark in the Grade 1, $1 million Coolmore Turf Mile Stakes on Oct. 7 at Keeneland.

For the second straight race, Master of the Seas was involved in a nose decision, but this time he came out on the winning end of the photo finish and did so when it mattered the most. Master of the Seas finished his 2023 campaign with a win in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile on Nov. 4 at Santa Anita. Breaking from the far outside post in a 13-horse field and needing to come from far back off the pace, Master of the Seas came flying past horses on the outside through the stretch to catch runner-up Mawj by a nose.

Master of The Seas made his 6-year-old debut April 12, 2024 in the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes at Keeneland. He was sent off as the odds-on favorite against five opponents, and patiently tracked the leaders through the far turn before finding room for a rally at the top of the stretch. Racing on a yielding turf course saturated by two prior days’ worth of rain, Master of The Seas spurted clear of his foes in midstretch and easily held stablemate Naval Power at bay by 2 ¼ lengths for his third Grade 1 win in four attempts in North America.

Master of The Seas is trained by Charles Appleby for Godolphin. He was bred in Ireland by the sire Dubawi out of the mare Firth of Lorne by Danehill.
