Mocito Rojo made his first 18 career starts on the Louisiana circuit during 2016-18 with notable success, wining 12 times. He picked up his first two stakes wins in 2018, in black-type stakes at Evangeline Downs and Delta Downs.

In 2019, the 6-year-old Mutadda horse owned by Wayne Davis made his first start outside of Louisiana, finishing third in a black-type stakes at Remington Park in Oklahoma. He then returned for two races at Delta Downs during the spring, winning another stakes race, and then shipped to Lone Star Park for his first graded stakes start in the Grade 3 Steve Sexton Mile on April 28.
With Filamon Rodriguez in the irons, Mocito Rojo rallied strongly in the stretch to draw clear and post a two-length score in the Steve Sexton Mile. He followed with a nose victory over Title Ready in the Evangeline Mile Stakes in June and a half-length score in the Governor’s Cup Stakes in August at Remington Park.
Mocito Rojo shipped to Churchill Downs for the $250,000, Grade 3 Lukas Classic Stakes Sept. 28 at Churchill Downs and outfinished a game Silver Dust for a narrow victory, extending his winning streak to five.
