Mongolian Groom needed three races to pick up his first career victory, a front-running 1 ½-length win June 15, 2019 at Santa Anita Park. He placed once in his next four starts before regaining his winning form with an allowance win at one mile Feb. 1, 2019 at Santa Anita Park.
That allowance victory prompted trainer Enebish Ganbat to try the 4-year-old Hightail gelding against stakes competition. He finished third in his stakes debut in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap Presented by San Miguel Indian Bingo and Casino.

After running fifth in the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic Stakes later in April, he returned to Southern California and finished fourth in the Grade 1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita Park.
Two starts later, Mongolian Groom finished second by a length in the Grade 2 TVG San Diego Handicap July 20 at Del Mar. He subsequently finished third in the TVG Pacific Classic Stakes before shipping to New York and running third in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes.
In September 2019, Mongolian Groom struck for a breakthrough win when he led from start to finish to win the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes at 25-1 odds at Santa Anita Park.
