Mongolian Saturday

Mongolian Saturday is a veteran gelding who finally found his stride in fall 2014 when he was a 4-year-old. After breaking his maiden in a claiming event as a 3-year-old, Mongolian Saturday ran in several graded stakes that year with little success.

Beginning in Oct. 2014 Mongolian Saturday launched a 14-race stretch through Oct. 2015 where he finished worse than third just once, and that was a fourth-place finish in a stakes race. The gelding finished third in the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector Stakes and second in the Parx Dash Handicap, Turf Monster Handicap and Woodford Stakes (all Grade 3) in that span before taking home the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint win at Keeneland. He then traveled to Hong Kong where he finished a respectable fifth in an international field in the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint.

Mongolian Saturday opened his 2016 campaign with another unplaced finish in Hong Kong before finishing ninth in a Group 1 race at the Royal Ascot meet. Another unplaced finish in a Group 1 race in England preceded a return trip to North America, where he got back on track at Keeneland with a win in the Grade 3 Woodford Stakes Presented by Keeneland Select. That set him up for a repeat bid in the TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint.

Mongolian Saturday is a son of Any Given Saturday out of the graded stakes-placed Houston mare Miss Hot Salsa making him a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Victoryasecret and stakes-placed Four Song Limit. He was purchased as a yearling for $60,000.
