Stewart Elliott

During Elliott's 30-year-plus career, he became a stalwart in Philadelphia-area racing, and he is the leading rider in Philadelphia Park's (now Parx Racing's) history. His first winner was Jack's Ruby, who paid $108 to win. Elliott's father, Dennis, was a jockey and the family lived in Hong Kong during the six years he competed in Asia. 

Although he was well-known in the Mid-Atlantic region, Elliott received national and international attention for the first time in 2004 when Smarty Jones made a bid for the Triple Crown with victories in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Birdstone and jockey Edgar Prado thwarted the Triple Crown attempt when they edged Smarty Jones in the Belmont Stakes. 

Selected by a nationwide vote of his peers, Elliott won the 2017 George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award. The Woolf Award, named in honor of the legendary George "The Iceman" Woolf, can only be won once and was first presented by Santa Anita Park in 1950. The award honors riders whose careers and personal character earn esteem for the individual and the sport of Thoroughbred horse racing.

Elliott began riding on the Southern California circuit in 2016, and has since relocated to the Midwest. He won the riding titles at Sam Houston Race Park and Lone Star Park in 2021. 

On Aug. 9, 2020, Eliott won his 5,000th career race when he guided Power End to victory for trainer Steve Asmussen at Lone Star. He became the 36th jockey to accomplish the feat in North America.
