Multiple Group 2-placed in France where she posted two wins, two seconds, and one third in her first nine races, Mutamakina was transferred to the United States in 2020 and joined the barn of Christophe Clement. After finishing a troubled third in her U.S. debut Oct. 31, the 4-year-old Nathaniel filly closed powerfully to win the Grade 3 Long Island Stakes at Aqueduct four week later to secure her first group/graded stakes victory.

In her 4-year-old debut, Mutamakina finished second in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes at Belmont Park on May 1, 2021, under jockey Jose Lezcano. He then finished sixth in the Grade 2 New York Stakes and third in the listed River Memories Stakes, both at Belmont Park, before shipping north of the border to contest the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes Aug. 22 at Woodbine. With Dylan Davis riding, Mutamakina stalked the early pace, took the lead after the field entered the homestretch, and held on gamely to win by a half-length, notching his second career graded stakes victory.
Despite the impressive Dance Smartly win, Woodbine bettors were unconvinced in her next start in the $600,000 E.P. Taylor Stakes as she was sent off at 8.90-1 odds, but the bay mare again proved up to the challenge. She opened a clear lead in early stretch and held off a sustained bid from stablemate La Dragontea to prevail and secure a coveted Grade 1 win.
Mutamakina added a second Long Island Stakes win to her credentials at Aqueduct on Nov. 27. Davis timed the move perfectly and got up over early leader Candy Flower in the last few strides.
