Mutasaabeq, an Into Mischief colt owned by Shadwell Stable and trained by Todd Pletcher, won his debut impressively during Saratoga’s summer 2020 meet, taking a 5 ½-furlong dirt race by 4 ½ lengths. He stepped up to Grade 1 company in his next outing, the seven-furlong Runhappy Hopeful Stakes on the Spa’s Sept. 7 closing-day card, and finished a distant third to Jackie’s Warrior.

Pletcher shipped him to Keeneland Race Course to try turf in the Grade 2 Bourbon Stakes on Oct. 4, a “Win and You’re In” qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, and Mutasaabeq swept from last to first to win the 1 1/16-mile Bourbon Stakes going away under regular jockey Luis Saez. Mutasaabeq finished a nonthreatening 10th in the Juvenile Turf in his final start as a 2-year-old.
Returning to dirt for his 3-year-old bow in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes Jan. 2 at Gulfstream Park, Mutasaabeq stalked the early pace, took over in the stretch, and powered to a clear victory under Saez.
Shadwell Stable bought Mutasaabeq for $425,000 as a weaning at the Keeneland November sale in 2018. He is out of the winning Scat Daddy mare Downside Scenario.
