Phantom Currency needed five starts to cross the finish line first in a race, but he had to wait another start to secure his first victory after he was disqualified in that August 2019 start at Ellis Park. He visited the winner’s circle after his sixth race when he dominated by 3 ¼ lengths Sept. 19, 2019, at Gulfstream Park. He closed out his 3-year-old season with an allowance win at Keeneland.

Back on the grass for his 5-year-old campaign, Phantom Currency won a one-mile turf race while leading from start to finish and next used the same tactics to win the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida Stakes for his first career stakes win.
Phantom Currency was away from racing for just over 13 months, but he was sent off as the post-time favorite upon his return at age 6 in the Grade 3 Kitten’s Joy Appleton Stakes on April 2, 2022, at Gulfstream. He lived up to those odds with a game front-running win, holding off a late challenge from Wolfie’s Dynaghost to prevail by a half-length under Irad Ortiz Jr.
