Roadster

Roadster was one of the most highly regarded juvenile colts in training during the summer of 2018 based on his eye-catching 4 ¼-length debut win at Del Mar on July 29. The Bob Baffert trainee was sent off as the 7-10 favorite in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity in his next start, but finished third behind stablemate and eventual champion 2-year-old male Game Winner and was subsequently sidelined with a breathing problem.

After a six-month absence, the Quality Road colt owned by Speedway Stable returned in a one-mile allowance optional claiming race at Santa Anita Park, which he won by 2 ½ lengths. That set Roadster up for a one-shot opportunity to get Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve qualifying points in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 6.

Under a well-timed ride by Mike Smith, Roadster rallied from fifth at the top  of the stretch and outfinished Game Winner by a half-length to punch his ticket to Louisville, earning 100 Derby points.

Roadster finished 15th in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, and in his following start, he finished second to stablemate Mucho Gusto in the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita on June 16. 

Roadster was purchased by Speedway Stable, the racing operation of Peter and Ann Flour and K.C. Weiner, for $525,000 at the 2017 Keeneland September yearling sale.
