Rushing Fall

Rushing Fall made an impressive career debut on Sept. 16 at Belmont Park, where she rallied from ninth to take command in the stretch and accelerated clear to win by 1 1/4 lengths as the 9-5 favorite. Trainer Chad Brown then tested the 2-year-old filly in graded stakes company in the Grade 3 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes, a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "Win and You're In" race for the Juvenile Fillies turf. She again settled in near the back of the 14-horse field, racing in 12th through a half-mile, about nine lengths back. She rallied into contention with a visually impressive bid, swept into the stretch from seven wide, and overpowered her opposition in the stretch in a 3 1/4-length runaway.

In the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Rushing Fall settled in the middle of the pack before making a sweeping move heading into the stretch, rolling to the front to win by three-quarters of a length and maintain her undefeated record. It was the second straight win in the race for owner e Five Racing Thoroughbreds, trainer Chad Brown, and jockey Javier Castellano.

Rushing Fall returned for her 3-year-old campaign in 2018 with a driving win over Thewayiam in the Grade 2 Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association at Keeneland on April 8. She then raced on Kentucky Oaks day at Churchill Downs, where she was caught at the wire by Toinette after edging clear of Daddy is a Legend in the Grade 3 Edgewood Stakes. The race was her first career loss.

Rushing Fall returned from a break in training in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes on Aug. 18 at Saratoga Race Course, where she returned to top form with a dazzling runaway victory. She  proved much the best again in her next start and return to Grade 1 company in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes presented by Lane's End, turning back a bid from runner-up Mission Impassible and shaking free in the Keeneland stretch. 

Rushing Fall made her 4-year-old debut in the Grade 1 Coolmore Jenny Wiley Stakes and remained unbeaten at Keeneland by holding off fast-closing stablemate Rhymska to prevail. She followed with a front-running victory in the Grade 1 Longines Just a Game Stakes on June 8 on the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets undercard. Rushing Fall’s four-race winning streak was halted when she ran second to champion Sistercharlie, her stablemate with Chad Brown, in the Grade 1 Diana Stakes on July 13 at Saratoga. Rushing Fall finished fourth in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes in October at Keeneland in her final start of 2019.

Making her 2020 debut in the Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes June 3 at Belmont Park, Rushing Fall halted a two-race winless stretch with a dominant, front-running win in the 1 1/16-mile race. In her second start of the year, she won a Grade 1 race for the fourth year in a row when she reeled in Jolie Olimpica in deep stretch to win the Coolmore Jenny Wiley Stakes by three-quarters of a length July 11 at Keeneland. Rushing Fall set a new stakes and course record in the win, completing 1 1/16 miles in 1:39.02.

Shipped to Saratoga for the Aug. 23 Diana Stakes, Rushing Fall extended her perfect 2020 winning streak to three with a hard-fought neck win over Mean Mary. Rushing Fall eclipsed the $2.5 million earnings mark with that victory, her sixth Grade 1 overall.

The three-race winning streak for Rushing Fall came to a halt in the Nov. 7 Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, when she took control in the stretch and fought gamely to the finish but settled for second behind Audarya.

Overall, Rushing Fall won three of four starts in 2020 and earned an even $880,000. She edged out Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Tarnawa in a close vote to earn the Eclipse Award as 2020’s champion turf female.

Rushing Fall is a half-sister (same dam [mother], different sire [father]) to multiple graded stakes-placed stakes winner Milam. She was purchased as a yearling for $320,000.
