Santin

Santin broke his maiden on debut in impressive style at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Sept. 29, 2021. He rallied from 5 1/2 lengths out of it to win a maiden special weight race on grass by 3 1/2 lengths. He validated that form with a first-level allowance win at Keeneland on Oct. 23, 2021.

Santin made his graded stakes debut in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar on Nov. 27. He closed well to get second, beaten just a neck at 17.70-1. 

After two defeats to start his 4-year-old season, Santin earned his first Grade 1 win with a determined victory in the Grade 1 Old Forester Turf Classic at Churchill Downs on May 7, 2022. He tracked the early pace, then made his move in the stretch and dueled with Mira Mission in the stretch, pulling clear in the last strides for the win. 

Next up for Santin was the Resorts World Casino Manhattan Stakes June 11 at Belmont Park, but he needed to have a shoe repaired in the paddock and it was not his day as he faded late and ran sixth. He got back on track in his next start by putting away pacesetter Smooth Like Strait in the stretch at Churchill Downs to win the Grade 1 Arlington Million, which moved to the Louisville track following the closing of Arlington International.
