Seal Team, an English-bred War Front colt owned and bred by Ramona and Perry Bass, made his debut in November 2022 and finished second in a five-furlong turf sprint at Del Mar. He did not return to competition until August 2023 when he was entered in a 1 1/18-mile turf race at Del Mar, which he won going away by 3 ¾ lengths.

That fall, Seal Team made his next two starts in allowance optional claiming races on turf at Del Mar and Santa Anita Park, finishing third and then first by a half-length. Trainer Richard Mandella then moved Seal Team to compete against stakes company on the Nov. 4 Breeders’ Cup Saturday undercard.
Facing a strong field in the Grade 2, 1 1/8-mile Twilight Derby on turf, Seal Team handled the rise in class impressively, rallying from off the pace under Umberto Rispoli to prevail in a blanket finish.
Seal Team is out of the multiple graded stakes-winning mare Mrs McDougal, by Medaglia d’Oro.
