Shipsational spent his entire 2-year-old season competing against fellow New York-breds. He made his career debut in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race at Saratoga on July 18, 2021, and won by 6 3/4 lengths in 1:05.02.
Shipsational earned his first stakes win two starts later, when he won the Bertram F. Bongard Stakes by two lengths at Belmont Park on Sept. 26. He wrapped up his freshman season with a half-length score in the Sleepy Hollow Stakes at Belmont on Oct. 30.

On Feb. 12, 2022, Shipsational made his 3-year-old debut, and his first start outside of New York-bred company, in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. He rallied wide late and closed for second, beaten 3 3/4 lengths by Classic Causeway. He earned four qualifying points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve in that race.
Shipsational stayed at Tampa Bay for his next start, the Grade 2 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby on Mar. 12. He raced wide throughout and finished third, earning ten Derby qualifying points in the process.
