Silver Knott (GB)

Silver Knott, a bay Lope de Vega colt, finished fourth in his debut in England during July 2022 but improved in his next start to win a seven-furlong maiden race on an all-weather track at Kempton Park by two lengths on Aug. 3. He then switched back to turf and ran even better in the Group 3 Fasig-Tipton Night of the Stars Solario Stakes Aug. 20 at Sandown, winning by 3 ¼ lengths.

Silver Knott finished third in the Sept. 11 Group 2 Coral Champagne Stakes, held at seven furlongs over Doncaster’s turf course, and then wheeled back to his best when sent to Newmarket for the one-mile, Group 3 Emirates Autumn Stakes on Oct. 8, winning by a neck with William Buick aboard.

Silver Knott's next start was in the Grade1 $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland on Friday, Nov. 4. Silver Knott raced back in the field and made a big inside move into contention into the stretch, then squeezed through a tight opening on the rail and fought on to the finish but was denied by a nose by Victoria Road and settled for second.

As a 3-year old in 2023, Silver Knott went winless but hit the board in four graded stakes races on the turf including the Grade 2 Pennine Ridge at Belmont (third), the Grade 2 Secretariat Stakes at Colonial Downs (third), the Grade 2 Twilight Derby at Santa Anita (second), and the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar (third).

Silver Knott returned for his 4-year-old season and got off to a winning beginning in 2024 with a victory in the Grade 2 $350,000 Elkhorn Stakes going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Keeneland on April 20. He then added another high-profile victory in his next start when he scored in the Grade 2 $400,000 Man O' War Stakes going 1 3/8 miles on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on May 11. Silver Knott stalked the leaders most of the race in the Man O' War until unleashing a stretch rally and drawing off to win by 4 1/2 lengths.

On July 28, Silver Knott improved to 3-for-3 in 2024 with a frontrunning score in the Grade 2 Bowling Green Stakes at Saratoga, held at 1 1/8 miles. The gelding went straight to the lead under Flavien Prat and was never seriously threatened, winning by 2 ½ lengths.

Owned by Godolphin and trained by Charlie Appleby, Silver Knott is out of the Nathaniel mare God Given, who won five stakes races in her career, including a Group 1 event in Italy. God Given is a (same dam [mother], different sire [father]) to Postponed, a winner of four prestigious Group 1 stakes who earned more than $7.2 million on the turf.
