Slipstream finished an even fifth in his career debut June 20 in a three-quarter-mile turf sprint at Belmont Park and then ran third in an off-the-turf maiden special weight race in July at Saratoga. The More Than Ready colt earned a breakthrough victory Sept. 18 at Belmont Park going seven-eighths of a mile on the grass, dictating the pace and powering to a 5 ¼-length runaway win.
