Southern Passage broke his maiden at fifth asking at Churchill Downs in a $50,000 maiden claiming race on Nov. 25, 2020. He was well behind in the early stages, sitting 9 ½ lengths off the lead as they approached the half-mile pole. With a strong run in the stretch, he caught the early leaders and drew away to a 3-length win. In his first three starts of 2021, Southern Passage earned one second-place finish and a third-place finish in allowance optional claiming races.
