Speaker's Corner

Speaker's Corner received plenty of hype prior to his career debut, a seven-furlong maiden special weight at Saratoga on Sept. 7, 2020. As the 0.65-1 favorite, the son of Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense finished third, beaten 6 3/4 lengths. Undeterred, Speaker's Corner won his next start by three-quarters of a length at Belmont Park on Oct. 11.

After that race, Speaker's Corner went on the sidelines for the next few months. He returned to the races with a 5 1/4-length win in a first-level allowance at Saratoga on Aug. 14, 2021, and then finished second in the Discovery Stakes in November at Aqueduct to close out the year.

Speaker's Corner was impressive in his 4-year-old debut, the Grade 3 Fred W. Hooper Stakes Presented by Hill 'n' Dale Farms at Xalapa at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 29, 2022. He set the early pace and held off the challenge of Fearless to win by 1 1/4 lengths. He improved to 2-for-2 on the year when he won the Grade 2 WinStar Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes on Mar. 5, and picked up his first Grade 1 win with a dominant score in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct on Apr. 9.

Following the Carter, Speaker’s Corner targeted the Grade 1 Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap June 11 at Belmont Park, where he squared off against undefeated California shipper Flightline. Speaker’s Corner took the early lead in the Met Mile but could not keep up with Flightline after that colt engaged him in the turn, and he ended up finishing third.

The Godolphin homebred trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott is out of the unraced Bernardini mare Tyburn Brook. His second dam (maternal grandmother) is Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Round Pond.
